Missing – Prose questions

Discussion Q’s 1-2

1. I do not believe this is the case.  Reading back in elementary school was fun.  Now highschool reading is just the opposite of fun, and love is totally absent. So saying love for reading is born and nurtured in a highschool English class is a false statement.

2. I would somewhat agree on this subject.  Readers can only take so much from a book, and that has to do with what they know about it.  If teachers only take that experience, they loose other meanings in the book.

Rhetoric and Style Q’s 1-3, 6-9

1.  Prose uses her experience in reading many other books, her being a mother, and confrontation of college teachers to esatblish ethos.  These are all credible and help to make the ethos known.

2 . The use of strong words within the first couple paragraphs show he feelings and help her express her ture opinion.  Rather than putting off the reader, it works more as a hook, if you will, to keep them interested.  She also uses strong terms toward the middle of the paper to describe authors.

3. That kids don’t like to read, because it it boring, or because they cant comprehend it, or because they have nothing to relate towards.

6. Yes I agree.  Though it is a good book, it is not very hard for high schoolers to understand.  Other figurative language she uses is her questions in the last paragraphs.

7. The purpose is to fill that readers head with her questions, so it sticks with them and makes them think about what is going on with reading today.

8. She would have srengthed it, because with the view of a teacher/student, she is providing more ethos, and concrete evidence that proves her points.

9.

  • Not being able to understand the reading.
  • Being bored.
  • Not having anything to relate to.
  • To much work.
