“There is little to no value in recognizing students for academic achievements. Education isn’t about competition; the whole purpose of education is to turn mirrors into windows.” (the final clause was written by Sydney J. Harris)I do not agree with the statement by Sydney J. Harris. In it, he states that there is no value in recognizing students for academic achievements, which I believe is very inaccurate. Students put in many hours of work in order to be successful in their academic studies, and to say that they shouldn’t be recognized is wrong, in my opinion. Education is about competition. Why is it so hard to get into good colleges? I believe it is because every student is competing to be the best and to get a better education than not only the other students in his own school, but other students across the country which, in the end, will certainly turn mirrors into windows. Until then, it is a competition of who can do the best, and I believe they should receive recognition for that.
