The general argument made by Sherman Alexie in his work Superman and Me is that the more “white” he acted the more successful he was, leaving his culture behind. In this passage, Alexie is suggesting that to be respceted as a native you have to be dumb yourself down. In conclusion, Alexie’s belief is that if you have the knowledge you should be smart and not lower your expectations for other people.

In my view, Alexie is right because people feel that there is no point to try in school to gain a knowledge because they think they will never succeed. More specifically, I believe that everybody should strive for the best the can be and not lower yourself for others. For example, if I was told I would never go to college I would do everything in my power to get into college, whether it be Harvard or Highline. Therefore, I conclude that you should stive for your best and be all you can be.
